A TransJakarta bus attendant has been reported to the police for sexual harassment after allegedly groping a female passenger.
The passenger, an 18-year-old university student identified only as M. A., filed the report with the Jakarta Police on Wednesday.
M.A. said that as she was preparing to step onto a bus serving Corridor IX, which connects Pinang Ranti in East Jakarta and Pluit in North Jakarta, the attendant, identified only as D.S.B., touched her breast and told her to wait until other passengers exited before she entered.
Initially she thought it was an accident, she said, but then she changed her mind because his hand lingered.
“And I saw that he seemed to enjoy it,” she told reporters at the Jakarta Police headquarters. “If it had been an accident, he should have apologized.”
She said she immediately confronted D. S. B. about what he did, but instead of apologizing, the bus attendant told her it was part of his job.
“He even challenged me when I threatened to report him to the police,” M.A. said. “He wrote down my name. So I called TransJakarta and a supervisor named Mardianto told me it was not right to regulate passengers by holding them like that.
She accused D. S. B of abusing Article 281 of the Criminal Code that rules on “immoral crimes.”
