Unless you are prepared to turn your private garage into something that looks more like a public car park to house a fleet of vehicles, the chances are you will find yourself having to compromise on some aspect or other of your car – whether it’s spaciousness versus style or people-carrying capacity over performance. Nissan’s New Elgrand multi-purpose vehicle may just be the answer.
Although it can seat seven in comfort, the vehicle’s strongly horizontal grille at the front plus curving headlights mean that it would not look out of place in the office executive car park. While the width and height of the car have not been compromised, right through to the “oversized” rear windscreen and large tailight clusters, the interior boasts leather upholstery and an all-wood panelled dashboard.
Equally, the vehicle’s big body doesn’t necessarily mean slow acceleration. The 3.5-litre, V6, VQ35DE engine is powerful enough to generate 280 hp at full throttle yet has earned Nissan super ultra-low emission vehicle certification, with some 75 per cent of emissions reduced from the 2005 model.
With business and family travel needs catered for in equal proportion, is this the first time it’s been possible to have your cake and eat it, autowise?
