Jakarta Police said on Tuesday that the drunk driver involved in a fatal traffic accident on Monday tested positive for crystal metampethamine, making it likely that he took the drug before crashing what has been reported as his parent’s Mercedes-Benz into three pedestrians.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said the results of tests performed by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) showed that Darshan Sutrisna’s blood and urine contained the chemical substances MDMA and metampethamine — MDMA is widely known as ecstasy, though Rikwanto did not imply that Darshan took any ecstay pills.
If its proven that Darshan was intoxicated on crystal meth during the accident, he might be subject to a heavier sentence, although Rikwanto did not mention how long.
Rikwanto said on Monday that Darshan faced up to 12 years in jail for allegedly abusing two articles in the 2009 Law on Traffic and Road Transports.
Darsha, 31, was reportedly going 120 kilometers per hour in a Mercedes-Benz when he drove into three pedestrians at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta at 3 a.m. on Monday. It was also revealed that Darsha didn’t have a driver’s license.
The accident killed Haryanto Sjari, 33, a resident of Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, and badly injured Andry, 20, and Jamaludin, also 20.
