The Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU Jakarta) on Wednesday began registering eligible voters who were not on the final voter list for the first round of the capital’s gubernatorial election.
Registration for the runoff between incumbent Governor Fauzi Bowo and Joko “Jokowi” Widodo will remain open until Sunday.
KPU Jakarta working committee chairman Aminullah said on Wednesday that people can register with the election committee at their urban ward offices. The data will be compiled at the district level and then brought to a KPU Jakarta plenary session for approval.
“We will have a meeting at the provincial level about the additional voters from the voter registration for the second round of [the gubernatorial] election,” Aminullah said.
People who could not cast their vote in the first round because they were unregistered should fill out a registration form and bring along a reference letter from the chiefs of their neighborhood units, known by their abbreviations, RT and RW.
Through Monday, the Jakarta Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) had received 950 reports from unregistered voters who believe they were eligible to vote.
“We will make sure that these 950 voters will be put onto the additional voter list,” Ramdansyah, head of Panwaslu Jakarta, said on Tuesday.
The second round of the election is slated for Sept. 20.
