Upcoming film adaptation of period drama Anna Karenina has landed its own fashion line, with US retailer Banana Republic announcing a holiday capsule collection curated by the film’s costume designer Jacqueline Durran.

Launching at Banana Republic North America retail locations and online this October to coincide with the US release of the picture, the line is inspired by the 19th-century fashions featuring in the movie adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s epic love story.

Featuring pieces for both men and women, the line includes polished, tailored styles that return to the grace of the Anna Karenina era with luxe fabrics such as velvet, faux fur and lace.

“As we began designing this Holiday collection, we found ourselves very inspired by the elegance typical of the Anna Karenina time period,” explained Banana Republic Creative Director and Executive Vice President of Design, Simon Kneen.

“With Jacqueline’s clear expertise and extensive knowledge of the era, it was a dream to have her as part of the styling and editing process, which allowed us to curate a capsule that embodies the film’s mood.”

Banana Republic’s line comes at a time when pictures such as blockbuster sci-fi drama The Hunger Games, released back in March, have become as celebrated for their extravagant couture costumes as the cinematography.

Starring Keira Knightley and Jude Law, Anna Karenina is already one of the most eagerly anticipated movie releases of 2012 among fashionistas, along with Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby which will star Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan in decadent 1920s attire.
