Samarinda. Three companies in East Kalimantan received awards from the provincial administration on Saturday for their contributions to local education.
The Kaltim (East Kalimantan) Education Awards were handed out to coal miner Kaltim Prima Coal, mining and engineering contractor Thiess and United Tractors, the authorized distributor for heavy equipment maker Caterpillar.
Bohari Yusuf, head of the provincial education council, said the companies were recognized for their “deep concern for education in the province, including, but not limited to, offering scholarships and training.”
“The governor’s commitment to improve the quality of East Kalimantan’s human resources through education elicited a very positive response from the private sector, so as a token of our appreciation, we’d like to honor these companies for their work,” he said.
Governor Awang Faroek Ishak also handed out awards to school administrators from various towns and districts across the province for their commitment to improving the education system, as well as to teachers and organizations involved in providing non-formal education in underdeveloped areas.
Three senior high schools in Samarinda, Balikpapan and West Kutai districts were also recognized for their students’ achievements in last year’s national exams, while an elementary school in Berau district and a junior high school in East Kutai district were also honored for their scholastic achievements.
