The Jakarta Election Commission (KPUD) has decided to announce the final list of eligible voters for the gubernatorial election on June 2 instead of May 26, as previously stated.
Chairman of KPUD Dahlia Umar said the decision was made after receiving input from the public, the House of Representatives, the Jakarta Legislative Council and the Jakarta Election Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu).
“We have ordered the municipal election committee to verify the report of unregistered and ineligible voters,” Dahlia said on Monday as quoted by beritajakarta.com. “We will check [the list] again.”
The KPUD has been under criticism for the reportedly inaccurate voter list which contains many unregistered voters as well as ghost voters, and voters who have multiply identity cards, allowing them to vote several times.
The committee decided to delay the issuance of the voter list after receiving the input.
Lawmaker Nurul Arifin said the gubernatorial election is likely to be delayed because of discrepancies found between the central government’s voter list and the Jakarta administration’s list.
After verifying the data, Dahlia said the KPUD would give the voter list soft copy file to the six pairs of gubernatorial candidates.
