Sukarno, Indonesia’s founding father, will be included among the wax sculptures collection of Madame Tussauds museum in Bangkok, Thailand.
“When a survey was taken to decide who the most popular people from Indonesia were, the results were Sukarno and Agnes Monica,” Indra Nugraha, marketing manager of the Tourism Authority of Thailand for Indonesia, said recently in an interview with Beritasatu.com.
The wax figure museum of Madame Tussauds in Bangkok features several famous figures from Asia, including former Malaysian prime minister Mahathir Muhammad, former president of China Mao Tse Tung andSouth Korean president Lee Myung-bak, but no wax models representing Indonesia.
“The purpose in building a wax model of Sukarno is to attract Indonesian tourists to Bangkok and to introduce Indonesian history to the world,” Indra said.
“We’re still researching the heritage of Sukarno and physical details about him, but it is difficult to find such information,” he said. “We have asked the family of Bung Karno (a popular name for Sukarno) and the National Archives building to finish the work of the Bung Karno sculptor.”
According to Indra, the price to make a single wax sculptor is Rp 8 billion.
Madame Tussauds museum in Bangkok is located on the 6th floor of the Siam Discovery shopping mall. Tickets to enter the museum cost 800 Baht.
