Indonesia’s first lady, Ani Yudhoyono, said the best gift she received for her 60th birthday on Friday was news that she would soon have a second grandchild.
Her youngest son, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, and his wife, Siti Rubi Aliya Rajasa, a daughter of Coordinating Minister for the Economy Hatta Rajasa, are expecting their first child in December. The couple married last November 24.
“This is a sweet gift for me,” Ani told reporters at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Friday.
Ani’s first grandchild, Almira Tunggadewi Yudhoyono, who is turning 4 next month, is the child of the first lady and the president’s eldest son, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, and his wife Annisa Pohan.
When asked what else she wanted for her 60th birthday, the first lady said she wished for good health, “so that I can support the president in his governance and statehood duties.”
She added the president’s birthday gift for her was a prayer.
Presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha, meanwhile, said palace staffers held a small ceremony at the palace on Friday in commemoration of Ani’s birthday.
“As for the family, a celebration was held in Cikeas [in West Java, the location of the president’s private residence] this morning. It was attended by their sons and daughters-in-law, as well as their grandchild,” Julian said.
Ani was born in Yogyakarta on July 6, 1952. She is the third of seven children. Her father was the late famous military general Sarwo Edhie Wibowo.
She married President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 1976, and has two sons from the marriage.
