An Indonesian has been listed among the victims of a tragic plane crash in a residential area near Lagos, Nigeria, according to the director of Citizen Protection Affairs at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Tatang Razak on Monday.
“Based on the information obtained from our embassy in Abuja, the victim’s name is Widya Utomo, a flight engineer on the plane,” he said.
The Dana Airlines plane crashed into a two-storey building in a neighborhood in the Lagos metropolis, killing all those on board, as well as 40 residents, according to some reports, though the official tally has not been released.
Rescuers said the crash site was difficult to reach, and that a large crowd which swarmed the site hampered their efforts.
Femi Osanyintolu, the general manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, told reporters that the building into which the plane crashed would have to eventually be demolished.
