Two TransJakarta busway corridors have been forced to suspend operations since Tuesday due to rain-induced flooding in parts of West Jakarta.
Heavy rains on Tuesday evening caused light flooding on Jalan Daan Mogot in West Jakarta. Water was still innundating sections of the busway lane on Wedneday afternoon, forcing the closure of the busway corridor connecting Harmoni in Central Jakarta with Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta.
A second corridor connecting Harmoni and Kalideres in West Jakarta was also closed.
“TransJakarta bus services have been disrupted since waters began inundating Jalan Daan Mogot on Tuesday evening. As it’s still inundated, we’ve temporarily ceased operations,” said M. Akbar, the head of the TransJakarta management.
He added, however, that TransJakarta was currently seeking a solution, probably involving alternative routes, as the two corridors were commonly very busy with large numbers of passengers.
Akbar said he hoped the two corridors would resume as soon as possible.
Waters inundating Jalan Daan Mogot have also forced other vehicles to seek alternative routes, causing heavy traffic and massive delays.
