A drunk driver hit three people and killed one at the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta early on Monday morning.
Haryanto Sjary, Andry and Jamaludin were sitting near the traffic circle at 3 a.m. when 31-year old Dharshan Sutrisna hit them in his Mercedes-Benz. Haryanto was killed, and Andry and Jamaludin were injured (the extent of their injuries is not clear).
“The driver told investigators that he was under the influence of alcohol,” Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by tempo.co.
Rikwanto added that Dharshan was still drunk when police questioned him. Dharshan also took a urine test to determine his blood alcohol level, the results of which have yet to be released.
Rikwanto said Dharshan admitted to drinking vodka and wine before getting behind the wheel, and that he faced up to 12 years in jail for allegedly violating two articles of the 2009 Law on Traffic and Road Transports.
The Mercedes-Benz CLS Dharshan was driving is reportedly owned by another man named Suwito Nawawi.
