Cultural center @america will be celebrating its one year anniversary during the next month, and it wants you to join the festivities.
To start off, @america is hosting talks by influential and inspiring figures and music performances by local and international talents.
On Saturday, catch Indonesian R&B singer Glenn Fredly and friends, as well as the Portland-based band The Student Loan, which will be bringing some bluegrass tunes to the bash.
The band members are musical ambassadors of the US State Department and have performed in 16 countries. The band is known for its originality and flair in mixing bluegrass melodies with classical and jam band forms.
On Sunday, @america will present a powerful, inspirational talk show with 2011 CNN Hero Robin Lim.
Ibu Robin, an Indonesia-based American midwife, leads a nonprofit, donation-based organization, Yayasan Bumi Sehat (Healthy Mother Earth Foundation), that focuses on prenatal care, maternal health and child survival in Bali.
To keep the celebratory spirit alive, The Soul Doctors, a blues and soul band from Glasgow, Scotland, will take the stage. The Student Loan will perform again, but this time in collaboration with local duo Endah N Rhesa.
And it’s not really the United States without country music, so Wagon Band will fix everyone up with some country numbers.
@america, located at Pacific Place mall in South Jakarta, provides visitors with high-technology facilities to explore, experience, and express their interest in the United States. Visitors can find cutting-edge technology, interactive games, and live events designed for all genders and ages.
The cultural center aims to be the bridge between young Indonesians and young Americans in an environment where they can learn from, listen to, and respect one another.
