Hundreds of people who fled the eruption of Mount Sirung on Pantar Island in East Nusa Tenggara earlier this month are now facing an outbreak of respiratory ailments.
Viktor Tanghana, the head of the local disaster mitigation office, said on Monday that many of the 250 people evacuated from Mauta village when the volcano erupted on May 13 were now complaining of coughs and other respiratory problems from the volcanic ash.
He blamed a shortage of face masks for the problem, and called on provincial authorities to send more. Antara
