A 24-year-old university student was arrested for allegedly running an online prostitution ring specializing in teenage girls in Bogor.
Hemud Farhan Ibnu Hasan, a student at the Bogor Agriculture Institute (IPB), is accused of running “AbeGe High Bogor Kota,” a website listing teenaged girls, ages 16 to 18, who are available for a “date” with anyone willing to pay Rp 1.5 million ($155).
The crudely made website featured the girls’ photos, their first names and their measurements.
It had been active for six months when police moved in, West Java police chief Tubagus Anis Angkawijaya told by Tempo.co on Saturday. Officers arrested Hemud in a sting operation at Bogor’s Papaho Hotel on Friday.
He was reportedly nabbed with three girls, ages 16 to 18, who worked for his site.
“The perpetrator was arrested after being tricked into coming to the Papaho Hotel,” Tubagus told by Tempo.co. “After they were all gathered, we raided them.”
Hemud was charged in violation of Indonesia’s Anti-Pornography Law, the Electronic Information and Transaction Law and the Law on Child Protection. He faces a maximum of 12 years in jail if convicted.
Bogor Agriculture Institute (IPB) threatened to expel the student after the allegations become public.
“If it’s true he has been named a suspect, IPB will take strict sanctions, including expelling him from the institute,” the executive secretary of IPB, Bonny P.W. Soekano, told Tempo.co. “This is a test and a lesson for us.”
This was the second crackdown on websites offering sexual services in a week. Last Wednesday, police in Bandung arrested a university student accused of running a similar site offering customers prostitutes and access to sex parties for as little as Rp 1.25 million.
