American Samoa, Indonesia to Form Relationship

Pago Pago, American Samoa. A sister-city agreement is in the works between American Samoa and Indonesia.

During this week’s visit to the US territory, the Indonesian ambassador to the United States said Indonesia is eager to expand a relationship with the South Pacific. An agreement is being finalized for a sister-sister relationship with the Indonesian province of North Sulawesi.

Ambassador Dino Patti Djalal cites similarities including agriculture, fisheries and tourism.

He says Indonesia will be able to host two students from American Samoa Community College on scholarships. He also wants to host an American Samoa law enforcement officer to train in Jakarta.

He says it’s also possible for an American Samoa resident to intern at a five-star hotel in Bali.

American Samoa Chamber of Commerce Chairman David Robinson called the visit “very successful.”
