Jakarta’s presumptive deputy governor-elect, Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, has offered the capital’s citizens his personal mobile phone number and will be toting 11 BlackBerries to listen to the public’s complaints and aspirations.
“If Jokowi did not give his number to the public, let me receive [the public’s input],” Ahok said on Saturday, providing the mobile number 0811944728.
He said that the reports, advice and complaints of Jakarta’s residents would be discussed with the presumptive governor-elect, Joko Widodo. His deputy said Joko’s administration would uphold the principle of transparency both in work performance and in managing the city’s budget.
“We will not deceive the public with [a false] image,” Ahok said, adding that he would allow no opportunity for corruption to infect the incoming administration.
A call and text message from the Jakarta Globe to the mobile number provided went unanswered on Saturday.
